To You Granddaddy
To you Granddaddy I send this late afternoon pre sunset soliloquy. For its is simply in the distant music's refrain and in the breeze on my face that so sends me back to those days on the Bay with you.
It was where we knew the movement of the tides and the seagulls welcomed our boat. It was where the water's waves bit softly against the bow. It was where the sun gave a glow in our eyes and freckled our face, and the distant splash of a fish caused us to stop and turn our sight.
The wind pushed at our backs and arms of steel pulled in the seining nets. You would let me sit beside you, the captain, as you delegated all navigational feel to me. You knew me and trusted me with your prize.
Silently we steered together, sharing the wind, the waves, the salty spray, and silently we shared this living dream of Bay and sky, of stars and moon. At day's end we move closer to port and safe harbor.
