Late August-Water's Edge

Late August-Water's Edge

Bon Secour River

It's the time of year again
that seems to master most of my mind
The one that seems to most often
echo the past and warm the day.

The feeling of long ago
sweep through the soul as people and places
and yearning times come by.
The youthful felt afternoon mellows at sundown.

The air is warm and sky bright
but an early morning, windy chill
brings us to those passage of days
and joins them with today.

We glance ahead not knowing
do we want to linger or go?
The summer passes so quickly
The long days longed to move away.

Yet, with the unexpected crispness
We see our shadows differently
And seem to be contended
Holding the late sunshine and smiling at the new star.
